It is difficult to manufacture small quantities of solid paint efficiently and quickly. The reason for this is that solid paint cannot readily be manufactured by the conventional route that is often used for small quantities of solvent-based and water-based paints. These liquid coatings often make use of bases or tinters to allow small quantities to be made quickly, hand-painted oil painting efficiently, with low loss, and at low cost. Until now, this manufacturing technique has not been available for solid paint.
As a consequence, conventionally, solid paint is manufactured in small batches on apparatus that is designed for large batches, with the result that there are long equipment clean-up times at colour changeovers and proportionally large losses of paint at such changeovers.
One attempt to overcome the difficulty of manufacturing small quantities of solid paint efficiently and quickly involves grinding powdered paint to a very small particle size and combining the powdered paint with coloured powders and agglomerating the mixed powders to produce a paint with the required visual colour.
This is described in Australian patent 643191. Oil Paintings This proposal suffers from the disadvantage of considerable expense of grinding powdered paint to very small particle sizes and thereafter agglomerating mixtures of ground powdered paint and coloured powders to required product size.
In addition, processing solid paints that are thermosetting paints in accordance with this proposal is especially difficult since thermosetting paints are liable to change chemically if the processing temperature exceeds the cross-linking temperature of the paints. This is a significant issue since solid paints are usually thermosetting paints.

BACKGROUND ART of Method for painting an engine
Electrocoating is a well known process for painting electrically charged articles by immersion in a bath of paint having an electrical charge of opposite polarity to that of the article. In this painting process up to 90%, or more, of the paint adheres to the workpiece. Also, paint Oil Paintings coatings applied by the electrocoating process have very uniform film properties, and the thickness of the paint film is accurately controllable. Further, there are virtually no runs, sags, or tears in the paint film.
However, for a number of reasons, the electrocoating process has not heretofore been used to paint assembled engines even though that process is especially effective for completely coating a workpiece having sharp edges, points, and hidden or otherwise inaccessible outer surfaces. First, there are surfaces on an assembled engine, such as exhaust manifolds and turbocharger housings, that become very hot during engine operation. If these surfaces are coated with paint, the paint will burn off during operation, producing smoke and undesirable fumes. To avoid paint burnoff it is necessary to carefully mask the surfaces that are subsequently subjected to high operating temperatures prior to the painting operation or, alternatively, strip the surfaces after painting. Both of these operations are labor intensive and difficult to control.
Submersion of the workpiece in a fluid paint bath, an integral step in the electrocute process, makes the requirements for effective masking or subsequent stripping more difficult. hand-painted oil painting Furthermore, paint applied by the electrocoat process has excellent penetrating ability and can readily flow past gaskets, seals, bearings and temporary covers over openings on the engine. This, of course, is very undesirable and can seriously damage the engine.

It is also desirable to have such a process wherein preselected portions of the assembled engine are not coated with paint in the course of carrying out the paint process, and further, that paint not enter into the internal cavities and passageways of the engine.

Almost any type of mechanical pump may be used for hand-painted oil painting evacuation, as long as it includes a suitable interfacing valve adapter 60. Rotary vane, diaphragm, piston type vacuum pumps are readily available in the oil-free style rated for coarse vacuum, that is up to 28 inches of mercury. It should be noted that the oil-free type is advisable, as the oil mist lubrication in some fine and high vacuum pumps may contaminate the paint with small quantities of mineral based oil.
Hook means permit the hanging of a wet brush 30 within the domed lid to prevent the bristles from being bent during storage. illustrates a single hook 62, preferably made of a C-shaped wireform Oil Paintings attached into the lid recessed valve cavity 22.
